Understanding What Migraine with Aura is and How-to Relief It
Migraine with aura is a headache that recurs and strikes after or at a similar time as the sensory disturbances known as an aura. Examples of sensory disturbances include blind spots, flashes of light, or tingling in the face or hand.
Signs of a Migraine
You may experience symptoms such as:
· Food cravings
· Getting hyper
· Fatigue
· Stiffness around your neck
· An urge to urinate often
· Constipation or diarrhea
Apart from pain, other headache symptoms might include:
· Upset stomach
· Runny nose
· Dizziness
· Sensitivity to smell, light, sounds, motion or touch
If the pain becomes too severe, visit an emergency room near you for treatment.
Ways That Might Help Relieve a Migraine Immediately
1. Medication. You can take in medicine such as Zomig, Imitrex or Maxalt (also called triptans). When triptans are taken on the onset of a migraine, it can help reduce its duration and severity. Ensure you take the right dose.
2. Over the counter, painkillers will help with the pain. If you lack a prescription medicine, you can take a painkiller like aspirin, acetaminophen, or Excedrin.
3. Lavender essential oils and peppermint. The oil will help you relax while peppermint is a good remedy for nausea. Be cautious not to get peppermint on your eyes; it has a burning effect.
4. Locate a dark, quiet room. When you are experiencing a full-blown attack, take your medication, and give it some time to work. A dark, quiet room might help.
5. Neck stretches. Tension in the neck area might trigger a migraine. Stretches help to prevent migraines.
What the ER Will Do for a Migraine
Some people can experience severe pain such that they have to go to an emergency room. At the ER, the doctor may order brain imaging to help identify the problem. You will also be asked some questions concerning your medications and headache. Medication will be provided to help with the pain until your regular doctor can see you.
